Must admit when I started this chakra goddess series I was a bit fearful of what may come up for me in terms of facing my personal challenges. For a very long time I knew one of my childhood challenges is using my voice. Uncertain of what I would encounter with this chakra whether it be resistance or overcoming this fear of stepping up and using my voice to express who I am. Growing up in my Asian family my voice was not honored nor respected. Voicing opinions and feelings were not welcomed and my parents used logic and sternness to shut it down.

I am reminded of a story of an illustrator who created images for a Ryder tarot card deck. Little did she realize she would undergo a journey of unfolding and experiences that brought out her own personal issues and challenges. If you notice Life gives you lessons to learn and grow or an opportunity to move into one’s greatness. Here I have this throat chakra to experience the power of the voice and speaking the truth.

When I was connecting and feeling into what Vishuddha, the throat chakra goddess wanted to be expressed little did I know I would get an image of a choir singer. Here you see her as a regal choir singer wearing a robe like dress with a neckline allows exposure of her throat to display this chakra symbol.

Now comes the visual challenge. This throat chakra represents the element of sound. While the other goddesses were easily visually expressed with their elements, I was really stuck on how to depict this. What does sound look like? While I had some ideas as indicated in my original pencil sketch I was stumped on what kind of background to hold Vishuddha. See below to reveal how I was able to overcome this challenge.

Vishuddha Throat Chakra Goddess
Position: Fifth Chakra
Color: Blue
Element: Sound
Objective: speaking your truth. coming from the center of your willpower, listening and being heard, communication, finding your true voice and expressing your truth.

Painting 1

Decided to paint the background of 18″x36″ canvas yellow and then transfer the pencil drawing of Vishuddha onto it. Here painted her robe outfit in blue.

Here she is in her blue outfit to match the color of the throat chakra. Looks like the yellow background is really bringing out the vibrancy of the blue.

Now the first layer of the blue paint for her robe is complete. Started on the rest of her body with the skin and her face. This gives me an idea of her personality and how this will look in the end.

Each chakra is linked to an astrological sign so incorporated the Gemini quality into this goddess by creating two tone hair color using black and another I have yet to decide.

Tried the black and white hair color combination and feeling uncertain about it. So will move onto doing some shadow work on the robe and her face while I let the hair sit on the back burner for the time being.

Her robe outfit has turned out well. Left a few areas to paint with a golden yellow color. Tried another hair color combination using blue and undecided at this point, as I am not feeling it. What do you think?

Added the golden yellow color and it a good match to the blue as it really brings out the vibrancy. Played with various shades of blue for her hair and finally this one works for her. This shade is not the same blue as her robe so it stands out on its’ own rather than blend in. More work on her face and she is looking serene and immersed in the moment of self-expression.

One of the challenges with Vishuddha is expressing the element of sound. As you see in the previous goddesses each have their element incorporated in their background. But how does one paint sound? That was my challenge. I tried various backgrounds and sadly I do not have pictures to show you of all the experiments I had done. With no success I decided to channel and feel into what would sound look like. The image I got was something mottled. So I created a mottled background using cool reds and warm yellow and oranges, which turned, out well.

Later I was sharing this experience with a friend of mine who sent me a Youtube link of what sounds actually looks like. Check it out. I was surprised to be spot on!

Completed the sound waves coming from her mouth and any final touches. Here is the last component to complete this chakra goddess, the blue chakra symbol painted on her throat.
